I just basically run this script on a cron job every night.

BACKUPDATE=$(date +%Y%m%d).sql.gz
echo "Start backup SMFSG"
mysqldump -u username -ppassword dbname | gzip -v9 > /destfolder/smfsg$BACKUPDATE
