Moving the forum and galleria

Last night I "moved" the forum and the galleria to another server, well I didn't exactly move it, I just basically transferred all the database to the new server and mapped the drives from the old server to the new one. I'll have to physically move the drive later tonight.

What's amazing is that it worked out great! Far better than I expected, I really am impressed with Ubuntu(Linux) I'm never ever going back to using windows as a server ever again. Now if I could only transfer all the movies on my other ubuntu pc to this one, that would bring the pc running at home down to two.

So the site would be down again tonight but only for a little bit, and I expect no problem in moving the hard drives to the new server.

Updating server

I'm currently making backups of the database and migrating all the galleries to a new computer. Hopefully everything will turn out okay. Hmmm... let's seem I'm at 20 wpm now using dvorak keyboard layout, it seems to have a lot of promise with regards to speed, but my main concern is that I seem to be forgetting QWERTY the more I use dvorak.

After the backups I need to restore them to the new server, and then pray that SMF and all my other settings work on the new one.

I've always been curious but never really took the time to learn dvorak... omg this is so painful... watching myself pitifully type soooo slow. A hunt and peck typist probably types faster than me. I'm gonna give this a try for several weeks and see how it goes.

Upgrading to Gutsy

Ubuntu 7.10 Beta Release | Ubuntu
"Introduction to Ubuntu 7.10 Beta The Ubuntu developers are hurrying to bring you the absolute latest and greatest software that the open source and free software communities have to offer. This is the Ubuntu 7.10 beta release, which brings a host of excellent new features. Note: This is still a beta release. Do not install it on production machines. The final stable version will be released in October 2007."
It's supposed to be released this month but I just can't help but give it a try, so far my past experiences with ubuntu was good, but this new release really just frustrated me. I could never get compiz fusion to work and had some problems with slow networking too.

I'm doing the upgrade instead of a clean install, but I'm also downloading their DVD installer/livecd just in case my upgrade gets messed up and I end up with a wrecked system.

A majestic film!

Broken Trail

"Broken Trail is a June 2006 Emmy Award-winning revisionist Western miniseries that originally aired on American Movie Classics as their first original movie. It stars Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church, and was directed by Walter Hill.

The screenplay for Broken Trail was written by Alan Geoffrion, who also wrote the novel of the same name. (ISBN 1555916058,
Fulcrum Publishing, June 2006). Novelist and screenwriter Alan
Geoffrion weaves together two facts — British were buying horses in the
American West in the late 1800s and Chinese women were being transported from the West Coast to the interior to serve as prostitutes — along with a series of Western vignettes." - Wikipedia

I just fell in-love with this miniseries the moment I saw it on AMC, the scenery was beautiful and I loved the characters. Never been much of a western genre fan, but after seeing this I immediately went ahead and borrowed some other westerns, like those with Clint Eastwood.
